The love for vintage is still very much alive on the runways of different fashion shows and one of the collections bitten by the vintage love bug was Erin by Erin Fetherston. With a bold and bright collection, the usual sleek Erin hairstyle was dropped in favour of one inspired by a famous actress of the 1960s.
Kerastase harstylist Odile Gilbert was responsible for the hair in the Erin by Erin Fetherston New York fashion week spring / summer 2013 show. Taking cues from the collection itself, she used 1960s style icon Brigitte Bardot as inspiration. She envisioned the beautiful actress and her bombshell hair on holiday in St. Tropez: the result is this headband hair with a side part and a twist that’s very easy to recreate.
Follow the how-to guide after the break.
How to: headband hair with a twist
Start by prepping your hair with some volumizing mousse or spray to really get that 60s bombshell look.
Dry your hair using a blow dryer. There is really no need to blow dry it straight because you’ll be curling it in the next step.
Take a large barrel curling iron (a 1.5 inch one will do) and then curl your hair in sections. Don’t over-do the curling because what you are really going for are voluminous waves.
Create a nice side part and then put a headband on but leave a section of your hair in front free to create the bangs / twist. For the Erin fashion show, a zipper headband was used but any normal headband will work as well.
Take the left out section of your hair and twist it going to the opposite side of your side part. Make sure it goes over your headband.
Take a bobby pin and secure the twist right behind the headband (just above your ear) where it can be concealed.
Vintage bombshell has never been this easy to recreate. It’s simple yet gorgeous and is perfect for a cocktail party or anytime you want to bring out that sweet 60s vibe.
