By reimagining a modern look for the strong, elegant woman of today, Redken’s Hair Director, Philip Barwick managed to beautifully fuse the ethereal with the edgy in a gorgeous style that is equal parts messy and polished. If you’re currently seeking to upgrade your spring / summer hair repertoire, trust this one-of-a-kind windblown twist to bring an air of effortlessness to even the most sophisticated outfits.
Paired to a barely there make-up look and a string of organic silhouettes, the messy twist appeared particularly delightful at Michael Lo Sordo’s spring / summer 2015 runway presentation during Australian Fashion Week. Learn how to emulate this style using the step by step tutorial listed after the break.

How to: the windblown twist at Michael Lo Sordo

To achieve the ethereal texture needed in order to build this style, begin by applying a mix of blow dry express primer, root lifting spray and volume spray foam onto your hair. Using a bristle brush, proceed to blow dry the hair back and slightly up at the crown. Backstage at Michael Lo Sordo, Philip Barwick used the Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer, the Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray and the Redken Guts 10 volume spray foam.
Next, create a horseshoe shape section starting at the front hair line, going in line with the outside corner of each eye. Clip the horizontally straight back section of hair away for now.
Proceed to separate a few strands of hair on each side of the hairline. Start at about 2″ back from the face and clip this section away. Using the remaining middle lengths, create either a tight plait or a braid and pin it to the head to remove the volume.

Once done, unclip the remaining sections of hair and brush the locks back, making sure you cover the plaits. Create the lived-in effect seen on the runway by using a 1″ curling iron to bend random sections of hair.
To achieve the organic shape at the back, take a larger section of hair and create a half twist at the nape of your neck, securing it in place with bobby pins.
Finish off the hairstyle by setting the hair with a strong hold hairspray. Philip Barwick recommends Redken’s Forceful 23 strong hold hairspray.
