Burberry May Lose Royal Warrant

Written by Daniel P Dykes

There's a right row brewing over the decision by Burberry to close their Treorchy factory in Wales and shift the jobs elsewhere. In 2007, the loss of jobs for cheaper labour is almost to be expected. But when a great British brand seems to abandon Great Britain, you have to wonder whether it's a case of cutting off their nose to spite their face.

While it has been confirmed that the 300 jobs are heading overseas, those now set firmly against Burberry are seemingly doing their best to damage the brand.

The row over closure reached new heights this week when Rhondda MP Chris Bryant, who vehemently objected to the plans, wrote to the Lord Chancellor challenging Burberry's right to the Royal warrant.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace has refused to comment telling Vogue "Buckingham Palace does not discuss individual warrants awarded to companies. However, as a policy, all warrants are granted initially granted for a five year period, and are reviewed after this time."

It seems that Burberry's warrants may be going the way of those Harrods once held.
