You may know her as a fashion retail consultant for major brands like Browns and Liberty of London. Or you may simply know her for her oft-photographed and much coveted personal style. Either way, odds are you’ve encountered Yasmin Sewell.
Still stylish while 6 months pregnant, Yasmin tells us she’s currently loving her sheer oversized shirts and drawstring Celine pants. She’s a fan of ancient Greek style sandals and loves Acne boots as much as I do. She’s a global citizen; a street style favourite; and a purveyor of effortless cool.
In Australia recently for Westfield’s The Collaboration, we sat down with Yasmin to find out her picks for the coming season, philosophies for wardrobe building, and tips for how to travel in style. Read on after the break for our exclusive interview.

The key statement pieces for autumn 2011:
“If we were talking what I personally want to be wearing this autumn / winter in Europe I’d have to say a great statement jumper just like the ones we saw on the Givenchy runway, man-style streamline coats my favourites were from Celine, Acne platform brogues and a killer printed statement dress from Mary Kratanzou.”
The pieces that will carry over to spring 2012:
“The autumn / fall 2011 trends that I think will translate immediately [into spring 2012] are the colour influences we saw from brands like Victoria Beckham and Stella Mccartney, the native Indian prints that were so beautifully executed from Proenza Shouler and Isabel Marant. There was still a lot of sheer on the runways which is tricky for autumn / winter here and makes way more sense for the Australian climate, we saw this from brands like Dior, Gucci and Christopher Kane. There was also a micro trend of polka dots which we picked up on, I can see this working well on a select few down under!
Also, I’ve just seen all the new pre and resort collections in Paris and Milan, the particular trends that stood out for Australia was the tropical prints we saw at Stella, Versace and Prabal Gurang. I’ve also loved a lot of the new style trench coats in alternative fabrications such as mesh, chiffon and silk. Were also seeing complete head to toe printed looks, its strong but I think the Aussies can pull this off.”
This year’s one must-have accessory:
“Givenchy Antigona Bag.”

The number 1 rule for staying stylish while traveling:
“Crease proof clothes! I tend to keep my luggage select and easy, and make things more exciting with jewellery and accessories.”
How to develop a personal style:
“Style to me means being absolutely comfortable in your skin and in what you wear, if you don’t it will show. Also and oldie but a goodie dress for your body shape and you can never go wrong.”
2 products to discover:
- Athena Procopiou scarves
- Draw in Light hand printed t shirts
On how to build a curated wardrobe:
“I’m personally very anti a large wardrobe as I think its just wasteful and leaves you confused, I do have pieces that I love that don’t wear often but that should be about 5-10% of your overall wardrobe. If you haven’t worn pieces for a while and you have no personal attachment to it get rid of it. Stick with the pieces that you wear over again and in different ways, such as a great blazer for work and night, don’t think you can ever go wrong with a good selection of black dresses. Once a pair of jeans stops looking good or has stretched get rid of it, these things can really bulk up.”
