The Sartorialist - Fashion Is Art

Written by Paula Teixeira

Ever since I remember, I have this love for fashion, beautiful things. For me fashion is Art, and as it I have great respect for those who chose to work with it. My love for fashion made me realise that I had another love - photography. So I started looking around on the internet, reading magazines, going to shops, just to see fashion. In this search for information I found the Sartorialist. Immediately I feel in love with him. He has a view on fashion that I share.

In his biography he says: "I started The Sartorialist simply to share photos of people that I saw on the streets of New York that I thought looked great. When I worked in the fashion industry (15 years), I always felt that there was a disconnect between what I was selling in the showroom and what I was seeing real people (really cool people) wearing in real life." This is so true! In fashion shows we see a lot of great beautiful things that we will never use in real life. Only a few of us can really wear those clothes, like artists. So in his blog he brings us the look of those people blessed with what call fashion wisdom. There are people from a lot of places with different looks, but in all of them we can see an attitude, a will to be unique. For me that's very very important. Just think in Anna Piaggi (Vogue Italy), she is the One with her very own style, you can love it or hate it, but you always have to look and agree that she is unique. Just like Madonna, she knows how to recreate her self.

Fashion for me is not just look for the trends and wear what's hot, it's the way you wear it. For instance, I just love I just love the way Kate Moss wears the trends before you even know that they are. I'm not a Kate fan, I just love the way she makes everything looks natural on her. But there area lot of people with style that we never saw, this is why the Sartorialist blog is one of my favourites, we can find anonymous people with star style. Don't miss it: take a look.
