What do Prada stores take so long to open?

It's one of those great mysteries right up there with 'why is the sky blue?': why do Prada stores take so damn long to open?

If you thought the year long wait for the Melbourne Prada store on Collins Street seemed excessive, it's nothing compared to the store in San Francisco!

More than a decade after Prada first began making plans to open a flagship in the City by the Bay, the Italian luxury fashion house is finally getting its wish.

An early 20th-century building at 201 Post Street, with a main entrance on Grant Avenue, will be home to a 5,650-square-foot Prada unit when it opens to the public on Wednesday. The 10 tall display windows on the first floor are framed in black and capped by Prada's signature chain logo, evoking the original Prada flagship in Milan, which opened in 1913 in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

As for Melbourne's flagship store? Though originally slated for November 2007 opening, the new store at the Paris end of Collins Street is now scheduled for October/November 2008. Whether that date will come to fruition, only architect Rem Koolhaas truly knows.

Traditionalist and futurist are two of the labels applied to Daniel, but he's in on the joke. When it comes to fashion he's a futurist, keeping a look out for new trends and designers, and using Fashionising.com as a driving force for change in the fashion world. He's a traditionalist with most everything else, but that's the Brit in him. He says: Boots for men are severely underrated. We say: It's easy to say that when you're part of the polo set.
