These days, creative directors seem to swap fashion houses faster than news reports can whip out the “musical chairs” analogy. The latest vacancy from Saint Laurent – Hedi Slimane only recently confirmed to be leaving the house after four years at the helm – has already been filled, with Anthony Vaccarello succeeding him.
The 36-year-old Italian-Belgian designer had been working as the creative director of Versus Versace for just over a year when he was snapped up by Saint Laurent. News reports state that he will suspend his own eponymous line to focus on his new role.
Vaccarello is known for his highly sensual, femme-fatale cuts, so we expect that his next challenge is to balance that with the newfound gritty youthfulness Slimane had instilled within the Saint Laurent brand.

We definitely have high hopes.
