You know who the highest paid models were in 2013. But what about the most influential, the most talked about, the freshest and the most memorable? Who stuck in our minds, who dominated the runways, and who stood out on the street? Of course it’s near impossible to come to any agreement – and it’s so, so hard to narrow it down to just a handful. But because we can’t make the list go on forever, here are our top 10 models for 2013. Above: Miranda Kerr & Cara Delevingne both shot by Terry Richardson. Andreea Diaconu. It was generally a strong year for Andreea Diaconu, the Romanian beauty with the piercing eyes and killer cheekbones. But nothing quite stood out like her stunning cover and bare-all photoshoot for Vogue Paris, debuting a sun-kissed, sensual side to the world in the most memorable fashion, and helping to pin her to the list of 2013’s most loved models. You can always rely on her to take off-duty model street style to new heights without looking like it takes an ounce of effort. We also loved how fierce she looked in the Rihanna for River Island campaign. See all our coverage of Ji Hye Park. Magdalena Frackowiak. Polish model Magdalena Frackowiak is one with staying power, continuing to land runways and editorials and campaigns and covers. And she never gets any less gorgeous. See all our coverage of Magdalena Frackowiak. Miranda Kerr. Miranda Kerr just does things with a sort of unapologetic confidence that makes being sexy and damn well knowing it OK. It doesn’t matter if she’s walking down the street with her 2-year-old son, walking down a Paris runway, being all business woman or playing the role of elfin-pornstar, she does it with energy, polish, and sex appeal. And yes, she did all of those things in 2013. See all our coverage of Miranda Kerr. Joan Smalls. You can’t have missed Joan Smalls on the newsstand this year, with plenty of covers under her belt as well as ad campaigns and editorials. The in-demand Puerto Rican model also rocked it on the Victoria’s Secret 2013 runway – much to the world’s delight. See all our coverage of Joan Smalls. Candice Swanepoel. Speaking of Victoria’s Secret, we’d be amiss not to mention another Angel – one who manages to easily blur the boundaries of high fashion and lingerie modelling. Candice Swanepoel can do super-fit lingerie model with ease, but she’s also proved herself time and time again as an editorial chameleon. See all our coverage of Candice Swanepoel. Candice Swanepoel for Interview Germany. Edita Vilkeviciute. An unpronounceable name hasn’t stopped Edita Vilkeviciute from landing some of the hottest shoots and videos of the year – her image cutting through the fashion noise with a stern and serious kind of sexiness. In 2013 she’s starred on one of Vogue Paris’ most visually striking covers, as well as Lui Magazine’s memorable nude cover and erotic, retro-inspired editorial – to name just a few. See all our coverage of Edita Vilkeviciute. Edita by Mario Testino for Vogue Paris, October 2013. Sasha Luss To call Sasha Luss the break-out model of 2013 wouldn’t be at all unfair. Since undergoing a hair colour transformation from mousy to platinum, she got a new burst of confidence and an extreme level of demand. On the runway, on the street, and in the magazines, Sasha’s striking features and fierce blonde hair won our hearts. See all our coverage of Sasha Luss. Emily Ratajkowski Her delivery of the word MEOW in the Blurred Lines film clip. Need we say more? Emily Ratajkowski was the girl that went Kaboom, from virtual unknown to pop cultural phenomenon, in 2013. See all our coverage of Emily Ratajkowski. Cara Delevingne. Living proof that goofy is the best kind of gorgeous. Leader of the cult of Cara, with 3.4 million instagram followers and counting. An ability to look completely polished and gorgeous one minute, and raggedly tomboyish but too-cool-to-care the next. There are a hundred other reasons but we don’t feel the need to list them: suffice to say, with the paparazzi chasing her every move and the social media buzz so loud it’s audible, Cara is the model that transcended into being a personality.
