Having previously revealed that the arrival of Tophop in Australia was likely to see the high street retailer open their first Victorian store along the Chapel Street shopping precinct, it has now been revealed where the first Topshop in Sydney will open.
Confirming news originally reported by Fashionising.com and elaborating further, it has been revealed by the Financial Review through unnamed retail industry sources that Topshop will operate from the former Gowings department store site in Sydney.
Topshop is to open its first Australian store in the heart of Sydney.
The UK retailing giant will lease the retail space in the high-profile, former Gowings building on the corner of George and Market Streets [in Sydney].
It is understood Zara looked at the Gowings building as the site of its first Australian store, before being wooed by shopping centre juggernaut Westfield.
Topshop’s selection of the iconic Sydney building will see it placed in direct competition with Zara. Situated in close proximity to the city’s central shopping area, Topshop will operate just over 130 metres from Zara’s Sydney flagship store.
No further information has come to hand about Topshop’s further expansion around Australia, including a push into Melbourne.
