Morrissey: stores closed down. Over?
It may very well be the end of the road for an iconic Australian brand: Morrissey, the company today announcing it will be closing it's four Australian stores and join the growing list of victims of the economic woes impacting the fashion industry.
Australian Shoe Fair: Sydney, 2009
It's not long now until the Australian Shoe Fair hits Sydney; in fact it's coming up this weekend from February 13 - 15! The Shoe Fair is pretty much the must-visit event for fashion buyers - and this year's fair promises to deliver many a style that fits within 2009's shoe trends.

The Sydney fair is also offering free retail workshops in areas like visual merchandising and profit maximisation, definitely not to be missed by anyone in the industry.

David Jones cuts back fashion show after slump
Australian retailers are feeling the effects of the economic downturn upon the fashion industry just as much as their US counterparts. Department store David Jones have announced they've not only cut profit forecasts and 150 jobs, but they're also cutting back on their much hyped David Jones fashion shows featuring model Miranda Kerr.

LMFF 2009 Business Seminar
Last time I was lucky enough to attend L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF)'s Business Seminar, I was blown away by amazing speakers like Jane Shepherdson, Jasper Conran and Jean-Jacques Picart. This year, the festival promises another fantastic program, headlined by Margareta van den Bosch; the Head of Design of H&M Worldwide.
Fashion Exposed and Preview: Sydney, 2009
There's so much on the program for 2009's Fashion Exposed in Sydney, that I'm not even sure where to begin. From Debut - the biannual awards which unearth amazing new designer talents - to StreetLab - a space dedicated to the hottest and edgiest young labels, there's plenty to see. We'll go into more detail on the individual events later, but in the meantime, do register to visit. Whether you're a designer, a buyer, or just someone interested in fashion - it's definitely worth checking out and registrations are free.

Fuji steps up to fill a Polaroid void
Last Feburary there was a sad, sad day. It was the day that Polaroid announced that they would no longer be making film for their instant-film cameras, and inside we all died a little. No longer would we be able shake it, shake it like a Polaroid picture. We all started to hoard film because we knew soon we would no longer be able to get any more. Little did we know we were wrong because this little guy was just around the corner.
This little guy is Fuji's Instax Mini, and right now I'm really tempted to make him part of my camera kit if only for some fun backstage shoots, or out and about with friends.

Millions of fashionisers traversed our floor-boards (a fancy way of saying 'used the site') and consumed everything from our fashion blog through to our fashion pictures. And while it was our readers who named Daisy Lowe the year's 'it' girl it's only by looking at what you did, and didn't, read that we truly know what really got the world of fashion abuzz in 2008.

Chanel to Cut 200 Jobs
As if we didn't already have enough signs that 2009 is going to be a lean year, The Guardian is reporting that they will be cutting 200 jobs, most of which will fall within their production workforce. Chanel is blaming a slow down in their luxury sales which is in line with predictions from JP Morgan citing that the luxury market will see sales fall by 4% in 2009.
