You don't have to be a designer to appreciate the neat little publication that is Fluoro Magazine. Filled with informative words and mind-blowing graphics, Fluoro is an award-winning resource about design and sustainability. We're pleased to announce that we have 20 annual subscriptions to Fluoro to give away!

Today it's Chanel suits, Hermes Birkins, and Christian Louboutin heels. Forty years prior on August 16, 1969 we were rocking - and strutting - to different beats.
Taking a trip down memory lane and anyone who was a hippie then most probably challenged personal hygiene, partied with hallucinogens, and maybe even participated in a bra burning. And while all that might be in the past, it's far from forgotten. As the ultimate anti-fashion fashion event - no designers, clothing optional, and a whole lot of love (think the look sported by love interest, Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump) - who would have guessed today's designers would look to Woodstock to incorporate some hippie-esque elements into their Spring/Summer 2009/2010 and Autumn(Fall)/Winter 2009/2010 collections.

It's a unique partnership, but one we're looking forward to developing further; for who could argue that fashion and graphic design are not in some ways related? Wrapped by Housemouse first came to our attention at this year's State Of Design festival, where they were exhibiting their award winning, eco-friendly, 100% Australian Owned designer wrapping paper range. The paper is modern and funky, so much so that it can also double as poster art. 200 guests at this year's High Fashion, High Tea were treated to a piece of Wrapped By Housemouse for a very unique and unconventional gift-bag gift that's been very well received.

While the first 200 guests to attend High Fashion, High Tea already have their Julie & Julia double-passes in hand, the rest of you of course won't want to miss out. Starring Amy Adams as Julie Powell and Meryl Streep as the legendary American chef Julia Child, Julie & Julia intertwines the lives of two women as they find their way through food and cooking. By all accounts clever, funny, moving, and delicious, Julie & Julia is unmissable.

While some of Melbourne's fashion set, yours truly included, shall spend this evening kicking back and avoiding the season chill, all the while celebrating the official launch of MSFW (Melbourne Spring Fashion Week), the same can't be said for Giang Cao. You see, Giang is one of the rising stars of the Melbourne fashion bloging scene and as the keen eye behind Through The Looking Glass he will, instead, spend tonight plying his craft. At a simple level you might call that craft street style, but look deeper and you'll see that Giang captures not just still outfits, but the personality behind the looks.

And it is for that very reason that Fashionising.com are excited to announce that Giang will be hitting the streets, parades and parties as our official street style photographer for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
Running alongside 2009's Fashion Exposed buying fair is the Australian Shoe Fair. Pretty much a dream for any girl (or shoe-loving guy, for that matter); and definitely a must for any footwear industry professional, the 2009 shoe fair will bring dozens of exhibitors together under one roof.
One label to have a presence at this year's fair is Lipstick, by Windsor Smith. Playing upon Spring/Summer 2009 shoe trends, faux reptile-leathers, lace, and fetish-inspired zips and straps all feature.

What is it that people love about shopping in Melbourne? Ask anyone, and they'll site a long list of cool back-alley boutiques, quirky niche stores, or perhaps the high-end Collins Street retailers that bring luxury products to a heritage locale. The likes of QV and Melbourne Central are never going to spring to any cultured shoppers mind. And why would they? They're many things - but they're not in the least bit remarkable.
With the imminent demolition of Londsale House in favour of a widened laneway and lacklustre shopping development, many people are thinking more deeply about the future of Melbourne as a city, and as a shopping destination. We know this from the intense amount of interest in the Lonsdale House case - much of it centered around the loss of the building itself, but much of it also in opposition to what The Age calls a slice of retail sameness.

On Tuesday, 1st of September Fashion Exposed will bring an unmissable line-up of speakers to its industry seminar series. Kicking off with a panel of industry experts from Fashion Group International - discussing ready-to-wear seasonal trends - the stage will then play host to Jack Hanrahan from Westfield Retail Relations, who'll analyse the retail strategies of iconic stores such as Topshop, Prada, and Selfridges&Co. Finally, more upcoming trend analysis from Mudpie UK. On top of the great program of speakers, the seminars are pure value for money: each 1 hour seminar costs just $33 to attend.
