Pierre Cardin wants $1.3 Billion

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 15.04.09

Legendary designer Pierre Cardin won't get out of bed for less than US$1.3 Billion, or that is to say that you have no hope of getting your hands on his empire for any less than that figure.

Cardin doesn't put on fashion shows anymore, but his substantial empire includes restaurants, hotels, food products with his name, and numerous other licensing deals. The 86-year-old designer tells the new issue of Fantastic Man, "The asking price is 1 billion euros [about $1.3 billion], and if prospective buyers can't pony up the funds, then that's their problem, not mine. It's not like I'm strapped for cash."

Skattwalk: interview with Lisa Grinceri

Written by VMS on 26.03.09

This Saturday 28th March at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Lisa Grinceri and her team of talented hair and make up artists will showcase their individual talents at Perth's biggest hair and fashion show; Skattwalk.

For the 5th year running, over 100 models will showcase the talent and creativity we have come to expect from non other than the hair and make up artists at Skatt. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Lisa to hear what she had to say about the event and everything Skatt.

Skattwalk Perth, 2008

Vicky: "Lisa, what was/is the inspiration behind Skattwalk?"

Lisa: "Hairdressers and makeup artists are so talented and have a massive impact on the fashion industry; however this is often forgotten with the focus always being on the clothing and textiles. Skattwalk is an opportunity to celebrate and present this talent to the public. It is also a very rare opportunity for the public to have an opportunity to experience a live runway fashion event, as sadly most fashion shows are invite only. Skattwalk is open to everyone that shares a passion and interest in fashion."

Fashion Exposed: Debut apparel category winners

Written by Tania Braukamper on 12.03.09

Labels Eternal Safari and Sebastian's Sister began collaborating in 2008, and thus far have proved a successful partnership. Together, they conceive cleverly thought-out garments that twist and turn and transform from one thing into another and back again. Their debut collection 'It was a restless moment' may stick to a palette of classic black, but the construction of the pieces is more than adventurous enough to make this collection worth a look.

At the Sydney 2009 Fashion Exposed fair, this collection was awarded the winner of the apparel category in the Debut initiative, the judges calling it "elegant, bohemian, distressed yet beautiful and intelligent".

Pacific Brands cancels LMFF catwalks

Written by Daniel P Dykes on 09.03.09

The economic crisis isn't just affecting the fashion industry in direct ways; while Australian fashion manufacturer Pacific Brands, which owns the likes of Bonds and Holeproof, may be laying of 1,850 workers they've also had to cancel their L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week (LMFF) parades.

PACIFIC Brands has cancelled its shows at the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival amid howls of outrage over its huge job cuts.

Fashion week organisers announced last night the company had pulled its two free Pop-Up shows, which were to feature its landmark underwear brands.

Unionists had threatened to protest at the Pacific Brands shows dressed as rats...

Textiles, Clothing and Footwear Union national secretary Michele O’Neil said going ahead with the shows would have added insult to injury to workers facing job losses.
