We approach this news with trepidation. LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, the rather long-named luxury goods consortium, has moved into a new field - sports cars.
The company has placed the highest bid for British car company Aston Martin, makers or some of the sexiest cars to grace our roads and to be driven by Ian Fleming's James Bond.
Seemingly an innocuous sale, and while LVMH has handled its brands well in the past, the idea of a Louis Vuitton monogrammed Aston Martin positively scares us. Chavs on the other hand are rejoicing.
Part myth is the best way to describe her. In fact, our grandchildren might not even believe us when she say she existed. But her impact on the fashion industry is undeniable, even if you believe she hasn't influenced a single thing you're wearing (she has) you can't deny her ability to have the industry obsessing about her proves the point.
In the New York Times today, Cathy Horyn has profiled Anna Wintour, the editor of US Vogue. It's an interesting perspective, a fantastically written prose (for want of a better term) and well worth your time.
And to millions of people to whom her power is less real... she is also a symbol: the small cross-armed woman in the front row, inscrutable behind her dark glasses and self-protecting English bob, her effect equal parts terrifying and calm, like the center of the storm she has dominated for 19 years.And of her role in the industry;
In recent years she has gone beyond the editorial domain and involved herself in the placement of designers at fashion houses. Her efforts fall across a spectrum of involvement, from outright pitching the name of a person she likes to a chief executive, to putting her weight behind a pending decision, to effectively make a marriage.
There's a right row brewing over the decision by Burberry to close their Treorchy factory in Wales and shift the jobs elsewhere. In 2007, the loss of jobs for cheaper labour is almost to be expected. But when a great British brand seems to abandon Great Britain, you have to wonder whether it's a case of cutting off their nose to spite their face.
While it has been confirmed that the 300 jobs are heading overseas, those now set firmly against Burberry are seemingly doing their best to damage the brand.
If you like planning ahead with your wardrobe, it's useful to know where the next year is headed in terms of fashion and trends! We asked three fashion industry insiders - designers Christopher McCallum and JY Lee, and the brains behind Hidden Secrets Tours Fiona Sweetman - for their predictions on what 2007 will hold.

As a designer of men's shoes, Christopher McCallum has the freedom to be innovative and influential, more often starting trends than following them. He gave us the low-down on where he'll be taking men's footwear in 2007.
"I don't always entertain trends... What I can tell you is what I will be releasing in Vein Wear's 2007 Winter and Summer collections.
In Winter 07 I'm bringing through flora-embossed leathers in both ankle boots and loafers for a sophisticated organic look. Entertaining on the weekends can be done in a pair of deconstructed luxury in/outdoor slippers made in aqua or burnt orange leather. And peaceful troops can trudge around the urban jungle in canvas long boots available in khaki, brown and black.
Claiming this is the major update to Rogue Connect in 2007 is really what we're telling ourselves. After a fortnight of working extremely hard to get the latest look up and running it's what we need to tell ourselves.
Dolce & Gabbana's lavish, art-inspired adverts, featuring Australian model Gemma Ward, have come under fire for glorifying violence. Dumbfounded? We are.

He's inarguably one of the best looking men in the fashion world, and for some time now designer Tom Ford has had his finger on the pulse when it comes to fashion. 2007 will be no different for the designer with a new venture between Ford and business partner Ermenegildo Zegna. Specifically targeting the male consumer, they will launch a new menswear range and shop in New York under the Tom Ford moniker.
Gio Goi has recently announced their collaboration with Pete Doherty (Kate Moss' current beau) for their Spring/Summer 07 'rock n' roll' range. Pete has also modeled some of the tee's which carry prints including 'Too Much Rock & Roll' and 'Drug Free', emblazoned across the chest.

Experts will talk about what it takes to put together a great fashion event, things to consider when opening a store, how to get a label off the ground, and suggestions for getting your label stocked in your favourite boutique."
With a host of talented nominees, the QANTAS Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA) is always an interesting one to watch. This year's winner has now been announced; congratulations to Ed and Bek who won the Award for their Summer 2006 range. Chances are we'll be seeing a lot more of this Sydney-based label.
