What is it that people love about shopping in Melbourne? Ask anyone, and they'll site a long list of cool back-alley boutiques, quirky niche stores, or perhaps the high-end Collins Street retailers that bring luxury products to a heritage locale. The likes of QV and Melbourne Central are never going to spring to any cultured shoppers mind. And why would they? They're many things - but they're not in the least bit remarkable.
With the imminent demolition of Londsale House in favour of a widened laneway and lacklustre shopping development, many people are thinking more deeply about the future of Melbourne as a city, and as a shopping destination. We know this from the intense amount of interest in the Lonsdale House case - much of it centered around the loss of the building itself, but much of it also in opposition to what The Age calls a slice of retail sameness.

On Tuesday, 1st of September Fashion Exposed will bring an unmissable line-up of speakers to its industry seminar series. Kicking off with a panel of industry experts from Fashion Group International - discussing ready-to-wear seasonal trends - the stage will then play host to Jack Hanrahan from Westfield Retail Relations, who'll analyse the retail strategies of iconic stores such as Topshop, Prada, and Selfridges&Co. Finally, more upcoming trend analysis from Mudpie UK. On top of the great program of speakers, the seminars are pure value for money: each 1 hour seminar costs just $33 to attend.

DKNY's cleverly-named Chari.Tee is not only cute, with it's white-on-black New York skyline meets fashion sketch... It's also in support of a cause. Or five causes, really. Each buyer who nabs one of the tees gets to select one of five charities for their purchase to go towards. At $65, it's a pretty good excuse to add a cute new t-shirt into your wardrobe.

Failing to understand that their dwindling margins and relevance to Australian shoppers has more to do with a lack of culture, terrible service and worse stock, Australian retailer Myer have succeeded in pushing for the demolition of Lonsdale House, one of Melbourne's heritage Art Deco landmarks, and the neighbouring Caledonian Lane.
While architectural news is seldom a feature of Fashionising.com, the decision beggars belief. Yes, the Victorian government's contemptuous disregard for Melbourne's heritage is hardly a secret, but Myer's failure to understand their irrelevance to consumers can only raise questions about why they're still in business.
