Boho is dead, long live Foho

Unless you've been living in a country sadly devoid of a fashion sense, it'll come as no surprise to you to hear that the Boho look is dead. Actually, let's expand on that. As a major trend, it's certainly no longer mainstream - but don't go throwing out your clothing and boots just yet, we're sure they've still got plenty of wear left in them depending on how you match and accessorise them. After all, if you couldn't get away with it we wouldn't have given you tips for getting Boho bed hair only yesterday, would we?

But what's the replacement?

Introducing the Foho trend

Okay, we think that Foho is one of the naffest terms possible, but hats off to the Daily Telegraph for coining it. The term represents the origins and influence of the trend; it's origins in the Boho look, and the heavy influence of folk culture.

"Foho" is about a more understated, eclectic mix, fusing classic Boho elements - Seventies silhouettes, crochet trims and trippy hippie prints - with more subtle folk pieces, such as washed-out denim and traditional embroideries. Crucially, it also throws in something modern like a great big shiny It-bag or über-cool trainers. It's cooler and far more authentic than Boho and owes more to the original folk look of the Seventies.

Who is wearing it?

Much like the Boho trend, you shouldn't be too surprised to find that the look has already been seen on Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Kate Moss more-or-less starts it, Sienna Miller magically popularises it (probably as a result of giving many more interviews). The Telegraph also states that Kirsten Dunst has been sporting Foho, but after some of her more recent outfits we wouldn't recommend looking to her for inspiration.

Where to buy it

This is a harder one, no one designer or label can't give you such a look off the track - it truly is about personal style. Instead look for the elements; you can find washed-out denim from the likes of Calvin Klein, while the first Kate Moss for TopShop capsule certainly touts elements of it, and certainly expect to see it in Sienna Miller's label twenty8twelve

When to wear it

Foho is definitely a Spring/Summer look, and we'd expect it's influence to remain in women's fashion throughout 2007, 2008, and reach a crescendo with bohemian luxury; a 2009 fashion trend.

Blog Post Written By Daniel P Dykes
Traditionalist and futurist are two of the labels applied to Daniel, but he's in on the joke. When it comes to fashion he's a futurist, keeping a look out for new trends and designers, and using Fashionising.com as a driving force for change in the fashion world. He's a traditionalist with most everything else, but that's the Brit in him. He says: Boots for men are severely underrated. We say: It's easy to say that when you're part of the polo set.
