Carl Kapp: commanding femininity

Joan Allen’s graceful impersonation of Elena Hood in the powerful 90s drama “The Ice Storm” is the image that triggered Carl Kapp’s inspiration this season. Modern, yet refined, offering a fresh perspective over structure and voluminosity, the autumn / winter 2013 collection envisioned by the Australian designer underlines the simple box-pleating and double inverted pleat techniques as ideal approaches to a strong yet arresting sense of minimalism. And, as a result, the female form has never looked more commanding.

The long line of clean dresses, sleek blazers and lightweight coats is enhanced by the choice of a vibrant color palette of crimson red, marigold yellow and turquoise, gently juxtaposed to the exquisite rigidity of the charcoal grey and royal navy. Carl Kapp sought the same sophisticated appeal in the luxurious fabrics that helped build his vision for fall, mostly soft and fluid, with leather offering an alluring edge. A play of colour, texture and smart tailoring, each and every one of Carl Kapp’s designs come as luxurious alternatives to a urbane winter.
