Rethinking “Americana” for his men’s spring / summer 2014 collection, Marc Jacobs didn’t spare an ounce of inspiration coming from the past, as both the rock n’ roll vibe of the 1950s, and the “Dust Bowl” era of the 1930s were cited as references. Accompanied by a wave of Hawaiian inspired floral prints and a styling that made many think about the real king of rock-and-roll, the line-up translated the retro influence almost too literally.
The over saturated color palette took over everything in between checkered suits, jazzy biker jackets and lightweight sweaters, accessorized with silk woven jacquards and paisley ascots. More of the slim tailoring invaded the evening wear segment, where pinstripes and shiny fabrics were chosen as to highlight the idea of exquisiteness, following a clean and uncomplicated path.
