Sometimes a collection just nails the essence of cool, and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how or why. If I had to attempt an explanation for how Mikhael Kale did it for fall / winter 2013, I’d mention the dishevelled bed hair tucked nonchalantly into chunky knit scarves, the scrunched socks rising out of black boots (even if their platforms are inexplicably high), the layerings of different textures and the general, subtle, use of asymmetry.
When Kale ventures into light, soft colours, lace overlays and florals the chunky boots and messy hair remain, along with willy wonka esque round glasses, giving looks that might otherwise be romantic a grungy, messy edge.
From start to finish Kale’s fall look book just has something. It’s the kind of collection where if you want one look, odds are you’ll want them all.
