Willow’s new cool: autumn with an edge

Architectural shapes and a darkly romantic mood make Willow’s autumn / winter 2013 collection particularly appealing – one imagines in both her homeland of Australia and abroad. Her signature use of lingerie cuts appears in a black bustier with jagged cutaways, while textured fabrics and leather panels create interesting effects even in the blocked black and white colour palette.

While it’s all executed with sophistication and a tough edge, designer Kit Willow bestows several stand-outs this season: a white suit, clean and yet brimming with a kind of slouchy androgyny, tapered at the ankles and worn with a handkerchief-hem top that sets the whole thing a little off-kilter in a good way; the thick bands worn around the neck as either chokers or faux-turtlenecks; and a realistic marble print that looks like it might just be ice cold if you were to reach out and touch it. In those, Willow truly excelled for autumn.
