Street style: men's military coat, London

Posted on 11.10.09 in Society

We've seen many instances of the women's military fashion trend on the streets; and while good men's military looks are to die for, they're seemingly not as frequently spotted. This London street style shot shows just how effective a good military piece can be, the young male model's otherwise unexciting ensemble of black skinny jeans and a grey tee completely transformed by a navy military coat with gold buttons.

John Galliano Men's Spring/Summer 2010

Posted on 01.07.09 in Show Coverage

As the Men's 2010 Spring/Summer runways continue, John Galliano brings an eclectic and highly ethnic inspired set of outfits with his Spring/Sumer 2010 collection.

From the far reaches of the Middle East to the distant history of British India, Galliano takes global inspirations and does what he does best: costumery. Galliano's man starts off in turbans, sandals, and earthy tones of brown, mustard and burnt orange; before traversing more tailored looks that bear to mind Imperial Britain. As with his previous collection, Galliano also dabbles in some military detailing. Modern sneakers and combat gear in some cases snap the looks back to present day reality; but the overall feeling of historical costume remains.

David Beckham's slick hair for Armani Underwear

Posted on 22.06.09 in Hairstyles

For those so inclined I'd wager that you haven't event noticed David Beckham's hair, or that if you have it's the barely-there gift from puberty and not that which adorns his head that has caught your eye. Never-the-less, while providing eye-candy to a fair share of the audience it is my solemn duty to point out Beckham's slick crop fits perfectly with current men's hair trends.

Toby Jones: 'Words Don't Speak' collection

Posted on 07.06.09 in Collections

Men's jewellery can be a tricky thing. And while we love the dandy look, especially for men's brooches, some prefer their accessories to be a little darker; a little more to the alternative side. Toby Jones' latest collection, titled Words Don't Speak, is definitely jewellery minus the bling. If muted metals and gothic-inspired symbols are your thing, the lookbook is worth a peek.

Military trend street style: Berlin

Posted on 16.05.09 in Society

It seems there are few better examples of 2009's military trend than those that appear on the street. This model (at Berlin Fashion Week 2009) was snapped by Stil In Berlin wearing a vintage pilot's jacket, made all the more cool by the pairing with Ann Demeulemeester boots.

Matthew Williamson for H&M Mens Spring/Summer 2009

Posted on 06.05.09 in Collections

I can't tell you how royally annoyed I am at not having London on my travel itinerary for this coming Summer season. And no, it's not just for the long nights, amazing bars, and the opportunity to laze away months in my favourite city. Those are all things near and dear to me, but coupled with the fact that I won't have the opportunity to shop for Matthew Williamson's men's range for H&M at their Regent Street or Covent Garden stores simply compounds the pain.

Fashion in Combat: Men's Military Trend 2009-2010

Posted on 26.04.09 in Men's Fashion Trends

The military shape always has been a fashion driven trend for the colder months; but for Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2009-2010 designers such as Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Burberry have modified and transformed the combat uniform from the past to the now. Gareth Pugh, with one of the most unusual menswear collections for A/W 09-10 has brought inspiration from the likes of German officer overcoats from the Second World War to the metal chain mail suits that were worn under suits of armour.

Movies can also be seen as a heavy influence in Pugh's A/W collection with feathers for shoulder decoration as inspiration from The Crow including the Gothic ripped trousers and black boots and the metallic body combat suit, a similar cut to Christian Bale's costume in Equilibrium.

Yet more interpretations of men's brooches, and we still can't get away from the simple fact that as a men's fashion trend they rely heavily on traditional British elements.

Shawl Collared Cardigan from Shades of Greige

Posted on 07.04.09 in Tops

Daniel Craig's outing in a Louis Vuitton shawl collared cardigan proved quite popular for those heading into the Spring/Summer 2009 season it would definitely prove too warm with it's heavy weave. Gentlemen, turn instead to this shawl neck cardigan from Shades of Greige for the coming warmer months.
