To go from having no bangs to having bangs is enough of a leap of its own, but to go to having micro bangs – i.e. the ultra short fringe – is a whole other level of daring again. Not only is it one of the less ventured-into spaces of 2012′s hair trends, it’s one that can easily be tied to associations of either the Bettie Page-esque or the edgy and alternative. But on Katharina Friedrich it’s clear that it doesn’t have to be either. It can be a mix of modern and classically-pretty, if only you want it to be.

If you do want to make this kind of leap just be confident that it will suit your face shape – and be prepared to give it the styling attention it deserves.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
