Alexandre Herchcovitch’s Russian dolls: Fall 2010

Not since Frida Giannini’s outstanding Fall 2008 collection for Gucci have we really seen an even close-to-comparative take on Russian luxury bohemian styles. And with good reason: it was near impossible to top. Wisely, Alexandre Herchcovitch takes a different turn in his Fall 2010 collection of a similar theme.

Billowing silk blouses, colourful broderies and fur-trimmed skirts were toughened up with fishnet stockings and lace-up boots. Plaids are also rocked up and embellished with beads.

It’s doesn’t quite impact the way Gucci did; but there are certainly some inspired takes on the Russian folk dressing theme to be seen in Herchcovitch’s collection… and by far the coolest, most exotic take on the patterned pants trend I’ve seen to date.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
