It’s a case of trauma and mental disturbance when you forcefully kill someone or something and then mourn over its death. So much is the pain of the loss that you lose your senses and translate into a living mannequin.
In these images from the editorial As A Cold Lily the feeling of numbness and displeasure from witnessing a death is captured in the most haunting way. Model Valentina Del Prete emits a disturbing, almost creepy, vibe that may freak you out but also makes you feel sorry for her loss. It’s the poker-straight hair and dark shadows under her eye that aid to the suspense, giving the feeling that she might be involved with the murder.
Photographer Paco Matteo Li Calzi has worked with studio lighting and its subsequent shadows, resulting in genius monochrome shots, and the neutral palette of the clothes balance out the aesthetic of the shoot.
But it’s not until you see the video accompanying the shoot, you really understand where the story began. The dramatic background score and sharp editing brilliantly captures its irk; and it all starts with a lily flower and its death.
