Beauty inspiration that borrows magic from the deep

Time and again has fashion been diving deep into the sea, resurfacing, then diving again – taking inspiration from mermaids and the magic of the deep. But as much as clothes have been the main focus of mermaid inspired editorials and shoots, the thematic trend also offers up options for hair and beauty that borrow their magic and mystery from the sea.

Flare’s June 2012 issue explores some of those beauty ideas with this shoot starring Meagan Callen.

Pearl-encrusted brows, phosphorescent eyes, strict braids and wet look hair shaped into mermaid style locks all play well with sequins and delicately embellished dresses.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
