It’s a photo shoot full of two styles of swimwear that we left out of our 2011 / 2012 bikini guide: the black one piece and the half kini. Both share the fact that they’re not distinctly on trend. Nor are they necessarily practical (the half-kinis impracticality is obvious, and black swimwear in the glare of the sun isn’t always comfortable). What they both do have going for them, however, is the potential to be heavily sexualised, something that Marie Claire Spain has discovered in their June 2011 issue.

Flicking through the photo shoot’s pages is a reminder that as a colour, the minimalism of black can carry with it a certain connotation (other elements permitting). It’s also a reminder that the half-kini is destined to never live a life beyond pictorials, even when it is paired with pieces from Hermes.

You can see the full photo shoot, featuring spring 2011 offerings from the high street’s H&M and the luxury world’s Dolce & Gabbana, by clicking on the thumbnails and browsing through the gallery.

Late one Oxford night Daniel P Dykes set about creating a fashion publication that would go someway to being an arbiter on fashion as it appeals to the emerging power generations: those who don't remember a world without the Internet and for whom work plays second fiddle to pleasure. And so Fashionising.com was born as a publication for those who were focussed not just on fashion's trends, but on society's too, and how those trends could all go to heighten the art of living. Hence, Daniel sees a future where, for those young at heart, both fashion and style are grounded in traditional quality, but with a youthful, sensualised edge. Daniel is Fashionising.com's Editor in Chief and Chairman.
