Bound up in Wonderland

With their high-heeled, leather-capped parade of fetishist patent and sheer pieces, Louis Vuitton did their part to ensure bondage themes would stick around for fall. And here those pieces are again, amoung others, in yet another shoot that follows the fetish formula: outfits in all black, nudity, a mix of lingerie and outerwear. But this one somehow does a particularly good job of softly captivating.

In one shot model Marique Schimmel stands in masculine jodhpur-style pants, heels and a leather harness worn with nothing underneath: the outfit is bold, but the pose – hip jutting out, arms up, cigarette in mouth – is the most striking thing. In other images she’s bound up in ropes; yet others wrapped in softer styling by Grace Cobb that centres on black lace.

Beautifully photographed by Driu & Tiago, this shoot for Wonderland’s September/October 2011 issue is a dutiful notification that fetish and bondage are alive and well in the fashion world. And, editorially at least, that’s not changing anytime soon.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
