Trends in colour, clothing and cosmetics are closely interrelated. The reason for this is obvious: a direction in one is complimented by a correlating direction in another. That’s not to say that themes and styles can’t be mixed up and contrasted – that’s all part of the fun of fashion. But exploring ideas like which beauty looks will support – or indeed fulfil – the season’s wider trends is always a fascinating process.

When it comes to spring 2012′s colour trends burnt and earthy colours are some of the hues having their time in the spotlight. Shimmering bronze, burnished gold, sparkling orange and rich metallic plum are all perfect additions to your 2012 makeup repertoire. As this simply yet stunningly photographed shoot by Shamim de Varax shows, a bright red lip works just as well as a nude one when you’re working with this palette.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
