Christina Aguilera not fashionably pregnant

Written by Daniel P Dykes

As odd as it might sound I've always been thankful that as a male I get to avoid the whole pregnancy thing. It sounds laughably prattish (and I'm sure I just went up a few notches on the feminist hit list) but even when I decide the world is ready for some little Daniels (if ever) I'll never really do the pregnancy thing. I'll never have to change an entire wardrobe, or worry about my post-birth weight. It simply won't be a concern. And for that I'm thankful. It just sounds awfully bothersome.

But then along came Nicole Richie, semi-reformed wild-child, and the society blogs went wild. Not because she's pregnant before marriage (magazines do no such moralising in this century), no, because she's managed to take it all in her stride and look bloody amazing doing it.

There's no such luck for Christina Aguilera, however.

You see, Nicole really gave me hope. Hope that every woman could go through such dramatic changes, take it in their stride, and look just as amazing (or even more so) as they had beforehand. Perhaps the 21st Century was ready for fashionable, pregnant women. But Christina has shattered any such allusions.

Perhaps I'm being overly critical, but I can't help but think Aguilera looks bloody awful in this most recent outfit. It's all wrong. Instead of dressing to flatter her new curves, she's wearing tights over far-more curvaceous legs in a way that only Britney Spears had previously thought attractive. Her top's print is fine, but the sheer material and length aren't doing anything for her. And her red handbag clashes with the entire outfit. At least, to her credit, she's wearing sensible shoes.

So the question I have to ask is what you think? Am I expecting too much? Are the feminist groups justified in throwing eggs at my front door? Or should Christina aim a little higher knowing that she'll undoubtedly be photographed? Have your say by voting on Christina's look in our fashion voting section.
