Crystal Renn’s hunger games

There’s often a lot of frou-frou and frills to be expected from any Ellen von Unwerth shoot, though always in a playful and downright sensual way. It’s none the less refreshing to see an Unwerth shoot that capitalises on her ability to make over-the-top costumery work in a powerful way, but one that channels it into something stronger and sharper.

This shoot for Shon Magazine makes perfect use of Crystal Renn’s new platinum blonde look. It’s a mix of sporty fashion and fetish fashion, Olympic Games and Hunger Games. The concept here is that Renn is the Champion, and her ability to kick some butt is conveyed not just through her triumphant poses but through Brett Bailey’s warrior-like styling.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
