A traditional suit with Dadaist details, bare deltoids as the latest “artsy-girl erogenous zone”, and a painter’s palette of colours that “haven’t been cool for about 30 years”, declared now to be (almost perversely) chic. Vogue US’s Modern Art shoot is determined to intellectualise the cross-over of today’s modern art and modernism as it was in the early half of the 20th century. Really though all eyes are on Karlie Kloss and her Art Deco inspired outfits, sharp short fringe and array of luxurious accessories that include opera-length gloves, head wraps, envelope clutches and oversized pendant necklaces.
Camilla Nickerson’s styling hits the right balance of being interesting as an editorial, yet easy to borrow ideas from. Photographed by Mario Sorrenti, the shoot is from the March 2012 issue of US Vogue.
