If Ryan Gosling’s character in Drive was created as an anti-superhero, then Gábor Márton has turned Russy Jin into something of a female counterpart. As this shoots driver she has the same steely resolve, the same brooding appeal, only dampened by the inherent softness of femininity. Marton’s sets include concrete parking lots and apartment blocks, as well as the cars themselves, strengthening the Drive association.
Nora Matisz’s styling incorporates toughness and confidence, leather and mesh; in some shots Jin even wears a mask, the true mark of a superhero alter-ego.
