Whenever Ellen von Unwerth trains her lens on a subject you can be sure that she’ll come away with a striking result. As a photographer she has the gift of getting precisely what she wants from her subject be that their fun, playful or sexy side, and she always manages to achieve something of a high brow affect.
This time, her subject is the gorgeous Keira Knightley, who at one point winds up with a moustache scribbled across her face. While this is by no means one of the sexualised photo shoots that fans of von Unwerth’s work will be familiar with, it is none the less has all the aspects of a photographer able to communicate with her subject, one not dependent on a cliche style to get a result.
