Four ballerinas: vintage inspiration

I doubt I need to mention the Natalie Portman film Black Swan, up for a Best Film nomination at the Oscars, as having put ballet on people’s minds. In fact, both the Royal Ballet and English National Ballet in the UK have reported an increase in ballet ticket sales since the film hit screens, proving the influence of film over not just fashion, but over culture. So for little other reason than that, today’s vintage inspiration comes courtesy of four ballerinas in LIFE magazine.
