If the jewellery in this shoot strikes you as unusual and unique, it’s with good reason: that’s precisely what it is. Don Pezzano, the designer behind Sydney label Urbandon, creates one-off pieces from materials he’s scrounged or happened upon; metals are 100% recycled and fabrics are reclaimed. Some might see antique keys, door plates, clock parts, bolts and whistles as scrapheap junk – but in the wunderkammer of Pezzano’s frugal mind they’re the building blocks to a piece of wearable art.
Peter Coulson shares with us yet another intriguing series in black and white, featuring little in the way of garments bar for lashings of Urbandon’s quirky accessories. As with a sister shoot, also starring model Alicia, this one wins us over completely for its shadowy lighting punctuated by winding trails of cigarette smoke, it’s pared-back yet edgy styling, and the impeccable makeup by Natascha Verkaik.
After Coulson’s shoots, it’s hard to imagine Urbandon‘s jewellery to be anything but darkly and devastatingly sexy.
