With a name like Pump Up The Volume you’d expect last night’s Salon Show in Prahran to be one of the loudest of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) – of course you’ll be gravely mistaken. What can be said is that with labels such as Ed Hardy and Stevie we’ll certainly see this as one of the loudest colour swatches of the night.

The runway belonged, for the most part, to fashion trends. After last years dismal sale performance for most of the fashion industry, more and more designers are sticking to the trends and often in the simplest of ways.

Over the past two days we’ve seen tartan creeping into shows, and Pump Up The Volume was no different. Also featured were threads following the mini-dress, and parka trends.

If it came down to audience participation, the night belonged to Stevie. Which is odd, because I can’t image who’d wear it. Look to Nique and Jaakan to have some of the best selling ranges for Autumn/Winter 2007 from this catwalk.

Late one Oxford night Daniel P Dykes set about creating a fashion publication that would go someway to being an arbiter on fashion as it appeals to the emerging power generations: those who don't remember a world without the Internet and for whom work plays second fiddle to pleasure. And so Fashionising.com was born as a publication for those who were focussed not just on fashion's trends, but on society's too, and how those trends could all go to heighten the art of living. Hence, Daniel sees a future where, for those young at heart, both fashion and style are grounded in traditional quality, but with a youthful, sensualised edge. Daniel is Fashionising.com's Editor in Chief and Chairman.
