La douleur exquise

Douleur. Pain.

This shoot is what happens when makeup artistry goes beyond beauty. That’s not to say it’s not beautiful, it is; but it’s not beauty as you’d expect from a fashion shoot. Stunningly photographed and directed by Niklas Hoejlund, emotively acted out by model Trine Hyldtoft, brilliantly represented by makeup artist May Næs, every team member pulls equal weight in the successful attempt to etch feelings onto the skin in splatters of ink.

In one particular frame, Hyldtoft’s ink-covered hand with deliberately talon-like nails projects pain as a warewolf-like transformation from human into beast.

Beautiful work as always from Niklas and collaborators. View the full shoot at the gallery above.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
