Lara Stone: black and white

Written by Daniel P Dykes

I've remarked on Lara Stone's transformative qualities before now, and her latest editorial is no different. Shot for the October 2009 issue of Vogue Paris, one might describe it as a world tour for Stone; there's black Stone, white Stone, Arabian Stone, Far Eastern Stone, and Venetian Stone. As such, there's also a large chance of this editorial causing controversy.

Naturally, it shan't be Venetian Stone that ruffles a few feathers. The dark skinned pictures of Stone, with all their Al Jolson overtones, may do it instead. Not that I personally think anything of it but, in an industry where black models receive far less work than their white counterparts, this is certain to rise the ire of at least a few people.
