We expect to see couture gowns in opulent settings. But Willy Vanderpere‘s pictorial of Lara Stone for Vogue China is set against a backdrop of decay; worn away walls, deteriorating furniture. Lara sits solemnly like a crumbling beauty in bare feet, flats, neon-coloured nailpolish, unkempt hair – and the whole effect is that the gowns stand out all the more.
It also seems that, while the Western culture of nudity in fashion is slowly seeping its way into the likes of Vogue China, there’s still that degree of censorship. We’re pretty sure Lara Stone used to have nipples.
The pictorial appears in Vogue China’s December 2010 issue.
