I’m know many of you out there are still scared to death of the hot pants trend. And quite rightly, this is not the easiest to master. Get it right and you may just look like a fashion forwards off-duty model. Get it wrong and you risk looking like you belong on a podium having ten dollar bills stuffed into your less-than-classy bottoms.

So here is a tip to keep in mind, as demonstrated by this shoot from the February 2010 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The overt sexuality of hot pants or short-shorts can be played down by way of ultra-feminine details. Floral prints are one great way to work this, as are other patterns like polka dots or stripes. And of course, skimpy tops are a no-no if you want to keep the overall look an elegant one.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
