Leighton Meester‘s choice of outfit is being slammed. At least, that’s what I’ve concluded from a brief sweep of the media reporting on the Harry Winson event she attended yesterday. Sure it’s bold, but is the negativity really warranted? Marchesa’s SS2011 collection – from which Leighton’s number comes – was overwhelmingly loved by fashionisers around the globe for its intricate detailing and fantastical shapes. So while a sheer jumpsuit (in Leighton’s case completely see-through even from behind, to some people’s dismay) is not something we’ll all be rocking sans underwear, it does beg the question as to how much context plays a role in our opinion of a garment. Perhaps knowing what Leighton’s jumpsuit looked like on the runway softens its effect on the red carpet.
What do you think of Leighton Meester’s outfit – a bold fashion move to be commended, or a faux pas?
