That Lily Cole herself is wholly otherworldly makes her the perfect inhabitant of a dreamscape such as this one. It’s a bleak and slow-moving world of quiet cafes and run down carnival tents, where Lily wins herself a man and the man wins her a goldfish – at least in a literal reading of the story. But the surreal quality comes down to the singularly unique effect photographer Paolo Ventura creates in the shots. Oddly real, almost three dimensional, yet as if they’ve been hand painted, this silent film of a story is more work of art than fashion editorial.
Styled by Vibe Dabelsteen, the shoot appears in the spring / summer 2011 issue of Vs. Magazine. Enter the strange and silent world of Lily Cole and the goldfish by clicking on the thumbnails.
