Another addition to the 2011 RAFW (Australia fashion week) calendar (last year saw her present her collection, unofficially, in the lead-up to the week), Marnie Skillings has us hopeful of great things. Why? Because her autumn 2011 collection had a sumptuousness marked by historical influences: from the liberal Alice Prin (better know as Kiki di Montparnasse) of the twenties to the ill-fated Joan Vollmer of the Beat Generation. Whether you take the highly feminine or the powerfully masculine elements, it all boils down to an air of sensuality – as the collection’s campaign embodies.
Will the same sumptuous themes carry over to the Spring collection when it hits the runway? We can only hope.
