While Adrien Sahores and Melissa Stasiuk are both stunning in the fall 2012 pictorial campaign for Pierre Balmain – Balmain’s second line – their romance is all with the clothes and not with each other. But whatever emotion is missing from the look book is made up for in the film campaign, which centres on the two models courting each other in a fleeting romance just as much as it centres on a courtship between camera and fabric.
Opening with backlit sheer black silk and moving through plunging dresses and sharp men’s suiting, it’s a film “inspired by late fifties/early sixties French and Italian films”. If Stasiuk’s peek-a-boo bangs aren’t enough of a giveaway of that fact, the soundtrack – Bruno Alexiu’s “Romy,” taken from Henri-Georges Clouzot’s 1964 unfinished film project “L’Enfer” – probably is.
