Pineda Covalin’s procession of prints

Discounting the view of the sparkling ocean that extended out beyond the walls of the Sandringham Yacht Club – and the idealistic weather conditions – the highlight of Saturday afternoon’s Sailing World Cup Lifestyle Party was the procession of brightly coloured kaftans and frocks that fluttered down the runway. Mexican label Pineda Covalin brought their kaleidoscope of lively prints to Australian shores for the occasion, a perfect match for both the theme and location.

Look up close at Pineda Covalin’s pieces and you’ll find everything from florals to butterfly wings to iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo hiding in the jungle of prints. These are dresses that need nothing else to be ideal for a Summer’s day or night: but if there’s one thing you can do to elevate them to another level it’s replicate the accessorised hairstyles that went down the runway with them. Entwined with scarves or dotted with large, colourful flowers, the hair gave the outfits a crowning glory of exotic appeal.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
