From the beaming smile to the playsuit to the colours to the hint of polka-dots, this is a look that oozes casual, relaxed, fun. But note the oversized blazer – almost a boyfriend blazer, if you’ll allow. Much of autumn / fall 2012‘s designer fashion revolves around the concept of androgyny, so pieces such as a boyfriend blazer will become common place. After all, the androgyny we’ll encounter at the close of 2012 will be one that sits apart from the interpretation of recent years. It’ll be devoid of the sapphic, devoid of the overly masculine. Instead the best way to interpret it will be as soft androgyny – feminine looks rounded out with masculinity.

Admittedly this look doesn’t quite hit it – the style of this look is aiming elsewhere. But it connotes something of how the season will feel, and serves amongst the first of many examples to come.
