Retro styling has many faces; from 1960s shift dresses to psychedelic prints from the 80s. The retro language is as bilingual as it can be, whether it’s to do with cars, appliances, clothing or lipstick.

Romania-based Rumours magazine takes retro to the bedroom; not in the fashion sense, but in the aesthetic of the retro lifestyle. In this mischievous editorial, the message is loud and clear – the woman’s ability to grasp sexual attention.

Traditionally, sheer lingerie and silky gowns evoke the sensitive side of a woman, however in this scenario, her dominating and powerful self is riding the boat. Her power to seduce, even if it’s by the means of lacy bunny ears, reinstates who’s the boss in the bedroom. The inundation of organza tulle and fine lace in this shoot refers to a pin-up fantasy, especially as model Mirela Balan spreads her slender self across an antique gold couch.

This could be the Romanian version of Betty Boop, or just a retro fantasy waiting to be undressed, either way, photographer Stefan Dani snaps this for your ultimate interpretation.

Shitika Anand is a freelance journalist, based in Sydney, who is addicted to coffee, vintage boutiques, bright-glitzy earrings and British stand-up comedy. Her bank account weeps every time she walks out of a shoe shop, but her shoe rack throws a 'welcome home' party for the new member. Her undying love for words is obvious when she narrates her entire life story to a stranger on the train. Which is partly the reason she's resorted to writing. When not blogging, she can be found in a corner of her nearest bookshop, hiding under a monstrous pile of international fashion magazines. You can read more of her work on her personal site, Sweet Dreams in my world.
