When Melbourne Central transformed a small corner of its shopping centre space from walkway to pumping street party, the usual fashion crowd were not in attendance. Instead long-haired skater boys and champion surfers downed free beers and Grilled mini burgers, while the female segment of the crowd chatted casually and tapped their feet to the DJ’s tunes. The event was the opening of the Vans Australian flagship store; the star guest was VJ Ruby Rose.

The Vans store itself may be a skater’s paradise – with varieties of street shoes lining the walls and casual print tees a plenty – but that’s not where it all ends. Cute brightly-coloured scarfs and mittens will appeal to many a girl, while more subdued accessories like casual hats and vintage-inspired sunglasses also have mass appeal.

The Vans store can be found along the Little Lonsdale Street entrance to Melbourne Central shopping centre in Melbourne’s CBD.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
