Stylespiration: icons of the eras

Several eras and their respective aesthetics are heavily influencing fashion trends for 2011, and with them we can’t help but be drawn back to the icons of the day as we look for inspiration. Embarking on a pictorial (or rather a series of them) of epic proportions, Glamour France covers plenty of territory – from Audrey Hepburn and the ladylike early ’60s to Jerry Hall and the glamorous ’70s; Marianne Faithfull‘s rock aesthetic to Catherine Deneuve‘s feminine dandy.

Some of these icons are favourites that pop up in our vintage inspiration series (and some I’ve always been meaning to feature but haven’t ever quite got around to it); regardless, though, if these are your own icons or not, the styling holds plenty of current-day relevance and inspiration.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
