A statement necklace that hits you like a visual sledgehammer is the best friend of any classic, block-coloured dress. Not that a statement piece of jewellery has to equal something over-the-top or dripping in bling. And not that a simple dress always needs one. It simply means that, when you choose to wear it, it’s a bold enough piece to not only draw someone’s eye but to make a dress more than a dress – to turn it into an outfit. While we all take a different approach to our curated wardrobe, for me a statement piece of jewellery is a must-have and I always lean towards the exotic. Joanna Hillman’s emerald and gold necklace is that kind of piece, and the colouring is a good match for the navy-dress-red-lips combination she has going on.

Some people's wardrobes are about a small selection of pieces that all fit within one aesthetic - Tania Braukamper isn't such a person. With a wardrobe that spans three different rooms, her approach to fashion is a mixture of current-season key pieces mixed with vintage finds she's sourced on innumerous shopping trips around the world's more cultured capitals. Despite a disparate approach to shopping, Tania is adamant that the key to mixing vintage with new season is to stick to key looks and colours that work for oneself. And it's a theory that she works into her writing for Fashionising.com, where she serves as the publication's Editor.
