One might dub today as the battle of the calendars. In one corner you have today’s release of the 2011 Pirelli calendar with photographer Karl Lagerfeld behind the lens and a number of the world’s best models in front of it. In the other corner you have the release of the 2011 Vogue Paris calendar with fewer people anticipating its release and Daria Werbowy its only, albeit perfect, subject. For such a bout the odds are firmly in Pirelli’s favour.

But now you have a choice to make your decision as to which you prefer. Here’s a sample – you can find the rest of the pictures after the jump.

The 2011 Vogue Paris calendar, Le calendrier 2011 Vogue, was photographed by Mikael Jansson which is why, if we were betting people, we’d wager for Vogue Paris’ better odds that you’ll prefer the outcome. We at least do. Largfeld’s Pirelli calendar, which you can see at that link if you haven’t already taken in, has all the hallmarks of a quality production but it feels lifeless and flat. Perhaps it was intentional with Pirelli, but the 2011 Vogue Paris calendar has no such short comings.

Late one Oxford night Daniel P Dykes set about creating a fashion publication that would go someway to being an arbiter on fashion as it appeals to the emerging power generations: those who don't remember a world without the Internet and for whom work plays second fiddle to pleasure. And so Fashionising.com was born as a publication for those who were focussed not just on fashion's trends, but on society's too, and how those trends could all go to heighten the art of living. Hence, Daniel sees a future where, for those young at heart, both fashion and style are grounded in traditional quality, but with a youthful, sensualised edge. Daniel is Fashionising.com's Editor in Chief and Chairman.
